In the English language, the Arabic word "khalifah" is - vicegerent.
Vicegerent means "one who acts on behalf of the leader or the king." As if the leader or the king tells somebody : " I want you to act on my behalf " - Therefore, we do not take it upon ourselves to act on the behalf of the leader or the king, because the vicegerent is ONLY appointed by the leader or the king.
We DO NOT carry out our own will but we MUST carry out the leader's will. We have no power of our own but as we carry out the leader's will we are allowed the use of some of leader's power.
That's why, we 'inherited' adequate portion of Asma'ul Husna = to able ourselves to be Allah's best representatives in this world.
Subhanallah : it is such an honor! Yes? Now, khalifah let us all do our best insyaAllah :)
